In summer everything is better
Bright salads, pan con tomate, a low-waste pesto, and SHORTCAKES
Hello! I missed you! Apologies for taking off last week. I was still getting back into a groove post-vacation, and the house was a bit of a mess, making my work schedule a bit of a mess, too. I was also still in the throes of the Stove Saga, so I was, respectfully, distraught.
But now I have an oven. And everything feels so, so right again.
Also I’m (hopefully! Fingers crossed!) one month away from getting to see the first printed copy of my book! You can pre-order it here, and I can’t emphasize enough how much pre-orders help a debut book. (Mostly right now I’m focused on pre-orders because Bobby Flay’s book comes out the same day as mine, and he has kicked me out of the morning news show circuit. In a way this is my Barbie vs. Oppenheimer because deep down I’ve always wanted to be Greta Gerwig.)
BUT I DIGRESS.
Summer is in full swing, which is always a treat, and it just means my mind is bursting with more recipe ideas than I can reasonably cook! So let’s jump into the weekly round-up, because vegetables are harvesting as we speak and there is simply no time to lose.
The weekly round-up!
Apple Oat Pancakes - Before you tell me apples aren’t a summer food, these pancakes work just as well with peaches. And currently these are the best part of my morning. Full stop.
Spicy Cappelletti Spritz - Remember the bonus recipe I included a month ago for a spicy spritz? I improved it so that you can adjust it to your spice preference. I also opted for Cappelletti, which is my current spritz obsession.
Carrot Top Pesto on Pan Con Tomate - This low-waste pesto can also be made with spinach, arugula, kale, or any leafy greens you want to inject into your dinner. The pan con tomate toast was an impulse breakfast, but add a fried egg on top and I’d do it any day.
Fava Bean & Fennel Salad with Oregano Dressing - This was meant to be more panzanella-adjacent, but I found just a few croutons was more than enough. This recipe is simple, but the dressing packs it with flavor. And it’s a fun, easier way to use fava beans while they’re in season.
Strawberry! Shortcake! - A recipe I have been craving for a MINUTE. And now that I have an oven, I had to make it immediately. It’s a classic, but this recipe has a hint of citrus sugar, which I think makes it special.
And that’s it for this week! Keep an eye out for summer party recipes on my social feeds this week. I’ve been testing a corn situation that I am very, very excited about. I hope you have a lovely holiday(ish) weekend, and I hope some of these recipes make your meal-planning list!
Until then, Xoxo,

the parenthetical about Barbie v Oppenheimer did make me laugh out loud in my local coffee shop
I’ve been off social media since May and just got caught up on the Stove Saga. Omg I can’t imagine the stress of all that. I’m glad it’s all over! Did you share a photo of the stove? I now want to know what this troublesome stove looks like. But also! Here’s to hoping your book sales blows Flay’s out of the water just like Barbie vs. Oppenheimer! You definitely deserve that more than he does
