When I make something I usually start with the flavor idea, then follow with the visual inspiration, and this week I had planned two visually ~stunning~ recipes that turned out somehow….smooshy. And I love smush food, I LIVE for smush food. But smush food twice in a row? Might’ve alienated the non-smush community, y’know?
So after I decided to retire smush recipe #2, may it rest in peace, it finally hit me that maybe it was time to take a much-needed break. I’ve been edging towards a break for a while, but like all geminis (*cough cough* ok like ZERO geminis, there is absolute no workhorse signs in my chart and it makes me so confused?) it’s been hard to take that time. But even the few days off this week gave me more inspiration than I had in months, and I’m excited to start creating, really creating, again! It just proves the mind is a muscle, and no matter how strong it is, she needs rest.
I also don’t love talking about burnout or breakdowns, because there is vulnerability for the sake of a message or a valuable story, but then there’s this gross vulnerability on social media that just feels performative and for the views. Please know I always strive for the former. Plus, I’m tired of being Serious_Snacks, I feel like this break has helped me get back to Original_Snacks.
And with that, time for some Original_Smush!
The weekly round-up, please!
Buckwheat & Leeks with Creamy Shallot Sauce - just because it has some smush doesn’t mean it’s not a textural masterpiece. Video here, recipe here.
Creamy Miso Soup - that is absolutely zero percent authentic and feels like drinking a croque madame. Video here, recipe here.
And a few updates before we go!
Recipe tester applications are now closed because WOW. We have a lot of them!! I’m going through them all myself so it’s taking me a minute! But you will all get a personal reply and a forehead kiss from Mom so do not stress about it taking time <3
I forgot to give you the update for this month’s book, but if you are in need of a read, Our Lady of Perpetual Hunger has changed my life. Thank you Maggie for the recommendation!
Until next time! Xoxo,

That Buckwheat and Leeks recipe was major Chefs Kiss! So yummy. I vote for Smush Food Merchandise because it really is the superior food!
Smush food is sooo comforting. It’s exactly what I want this time of year 💞
