The weeks after 4th of July are always my favorite. I live for the heat (I don’t know who made me like this) and I love how long and slow all my days feel. Plus, I really just love seeing everyone on vacation on my social media. Even if I’m not on vacation, I love living vicariously through you. Fire Island! Swimsuits! Someone got pickpocketed in the south of France! I go on.
I’m in the final stages of my not-secret project (manuscript due in mere WEEKS eeeee!) so I haven’t been able to indulge in all my favorite summer vegetables just yet. I’ve been focusing much more on my easy comfort foods - a galette I made for the holiday (and that you can repeat with anything), my favorite kind of tomato toast, and a cookie that has now been dubbed my new front-runner. My deepest apologies to Salted Banana for losing her throne.
All of those are in this week’s round up, but I see some eggplant, garlic scapes and zucchini in our future soon!
The weekly round-up!
ICYMI - A Rye & Rhubarb Galette which can be copy-and-pasted into any summer fruit your heart desires. Also rye crust….total game changer.
A Calabrian Chili & Sungold Tomato Toast since we are all tomato girls now! Except with this tomato toast the sungolds get simmered and reduced into concentrated, jammy goodness. And if you’re spice averse, don’t worry, this one doesn't have too much of a kick.
And I’m pleased to announce a new member of my ever-expanding cookie family. Sour Cream Cookies arrived July 6th, 2023 at a healthy weight of 3.2 ounces. Both mother and child are recovering well.
And PS - if you’re an adventurous baker, or love the texture of the Tiramisu Cookies, or love the idea of an insanely crispy edge but a gooey, melty center…cookies with sour cream as the secret ingredient are meant for you.
And now I dive head first into my Farmer’s Market to get some thick boi eggplants! Or small fairytale ones, my decision is TBD. I hope you have a wonderful summer weekend, and don’t get pickpocketed in the south of France ok?
Xoxo,

The tomato on toast with ricotta was so delicious, easy, and gorgeous to look at. Thank you for another great recipe!
What’re we doing with those thick bois? 🍆🍆🍆
