Logically, I should not be in San Diego right now. A more responsible Snack (where she is, I will never know) would realize she has a deadline for her super-secret-influencer project coming up, and that as a person who can’t work well on planes, should probably save herself the 12 hour trip. But. Here I am. And to be honest, the weather is lovely!
But this whole decision is brought on by the fact that I have been trying to turn down less adventures, big or small. It is very easy for me to get bogged down and generally afraid to leave my space, and this past year I’ve found myself holing up into myself for the sake of security, and for the sake of climbing the food-creator-ladder (There is a ladder! It does exist! Guy Fieri’s at the top, he calls it FlavorCrown).
But while this “holing up” strategy has made me more productive, it’s also made me feel less like myself. So this trip might not be the biggest adventure of all time (it’s a Bachelorette weekend, I spent last night screaming in a piano bar), it’s still one more opportunity to expand the things I experience in my little lo-fi life.
So this newsletter is written from an airbnb at the crack of dawn, as I try to be a little bit more of a responsible Snack, but also not someone who turns down chances to see the ocean (and the piano bar…the piano bar was 10/10).
Now to the food writing!
Ohhhh what a week. The recipes are good, and I’m just out here trying to make Cheese Bowls happen. Here’s what you might have seen or missed:
Broccolini (TM) Sunflower Toast - a meal that tastes like spring, plus did you know broccolini is trademarked? BRB, contacting my lawyer.
Charred Spring Peas & Ricotta Bowl - I’m just dying to make Cheese Bowls happen.
Cottage Cheese Bowl with Za’atar Vegetables - I’m really dying to make Cheese Bowls happen.
Tamarind Carrot Cake - quite possibly my favorite baking recipe in a long time. The subtle fruity tartness of the tamarind and the sweetness of the cake are just *chef’s kiss*
And a Half-Proof Paper Plane - for those of us who love the taste of a strong drink but want just a bit *less* alcohol in the mix. Plus Paper Planes are going to be the drink of the summer, I’m praying for it.
And that’s it for this week! And know that I still have the Woman Scout Cookies on the brain…the testing is going ok, I just have big hopes and big dreams.
Now until next time!
Xoxo,
Snacks
That cake looks dope!
Have a wonderful trip and take the time to enjoy, breathe and just 'be'.
