Comfort food, crispy rice, and the eggplant that changed me
Plus a tinned fish collab worth mentioning!
It feels like you’re getting a double feature this weekend, but welcome to week #3 of Snacks! This newsletter is every Sunday, plus ~when I feel like it~ so yesterday a bonus recipe went out! I hope I’m not clogging your inbox too much, and I hope you’re also loving newsletter life <3 Now let’s get into it…
This week’s round-up!
A short but sweet week this week. To be completely honest, I’m coming off a collaboration with TikTok where I posted 5x a week for 8 weeks, and your girl is tiredddd. I tried to keep up this week, but only came out with two bangers. But they are good ones!
Tamari heirloom tomatoes & crispy rice, where I talk about what comfort foods mean to me, video here, recipe here.
Miso-glazed eggplant with Indonesian condiments, the first eggplant recipe that convinced me to love eggplant, video here, recipe here.
And this week’s favorites!
It’s been what feels like an ongoing heat wave, so it’s time to talk SPF! I’ve been loving my Supergoop Daily Dose + Vitamin C. It makes me feel slippery like a tiny baby dolphin, and I can tack it on to the end of my skincare routine with no problem. It dries in like 5 minutes, making it a good base before anything. And I don’t really do much makeup ever, but as a dedicated tinted moisturizer fan, this has been an ideal base during the summer when I’m like….ok maybe I should probably not fry in the sun?
In the food world, I need (NEED) you to know about the Graza Olive Oil + Fish Wife collab for their Campfire Cod. This is MSC-certified, wild-caught Alaskan cod packed in Graza’s Sizzle evoo. Basically, tinned fish that you’ll want to eat from the tin, then douse your bread in the olive oil afterward. And if you haven’t heard of MSC-verified, this stands for the Marine Stewardship Council, a global nonprofit dedicated to ending overfishing and making certified sustainable seafood more accessible to people all around the world. I’ve worked with the MSC before, and I can personally vouch for their standards, making me feel all the better about getting my hands on this incredible fish+evoo magic.
***And not a favorite, but a Book Club note (should we ever start a Book Club), the book I mentioned as my book for August, Dear Miss Metropolitan, deserves a giant trigger warning. This book has been very difficult for me to read sometimes, so just caveating that it is a heavy and intricate novel. I deeply appreciate the narrative and I am loving the book, but I wanted to do my due diligence in case you picked it up earlier this month.
But on a lighter note…if we start a Book Club what should we call it? 👀 👀 👀
I was converted to eggplant a few years ago and now spend every summer spreading the good news. Loved seeing this eggplant recipe from you, looks amazing!
