Good morning, I made you a muffin (yes, just one)
Plus my whetstone and a few other favorite tools!
Happy Saturday, and just like the title confirms, we are queueing up a single-serving muffin recipe today! It’s about time I put an egg in the center of a muffin (and way too long after Queen Emily made The Rebel Within famous) so if you’re reading this hungry, you can skip to the bottom of the weekly round-up for all the good stuff.
But before the weekly round-up I wanted to chat kitchen tools. I’ve been seeing a lot of chef-y tools out there lately (Instagram must know I’m in a purchasey mood), and while I will always advocate for great dutch ovens or a fully forged stainless steel knife, there are some things that I don’t really spend on. Think: whisks (I still use an abandoned whisk from my old hand mixer…it’s not my finest moment), tweezers, baking pans, etc. A recent cheap-but-effective purchase has been my whetstone, which you can see in action in this video here. Another has been my tweezers, which while they absolutely feel like they are meant for surgery, are still a pretty great time in the kitchen.
None of these links are affiliate (because I am too lazy to deal with Amazon and I get confused easily), but I wanted to share them because I think both a really great tools. If you add them to your kitchen let me know, I’d love to do a proper knife sharpening tutorial soon!
Now, the weekly round-up!
Lemon Poppy Salad with Stracciatella - toasted poppy seeds add a nice nuttiness and crunch to this one, without (hopefully) being too much of an extra step!
Single-Serving Craftsman & Wolves “The Rebel Within” Muffin - I can’t call this a true recreation, since the original has pork sausage and parmesan in it, but I can call this an easy, delicious, almost cheesy-tasting muffin recipe that just needs a few tricks to get the perfect jammy-egg center.
And what a baby newsletter this was! The newsletter continues to be my favorite thing, but some weeks get a *bit* more love than others. But I have an audio episode planned for next week, which I’m pretty excited about. I have one topic to discuss (my no-scroll week that turned into no-scroll weeks), but would also love to end with answering a few questions if you have any! Just let me know in the comments.
Until then, I’ll see you in the next newsletter. And have a great long weekend for me <3
Love,
_Snacks
Are there any summer ingredients that you’re really excited to use soon?
Would LOVE to see a proper knife sharpening video! Have been trying to sharpen my knives with a whetstone and always feel like I’m not doing a great job.
